Submission Guidelines

1.The Journal of the History of Ideas in East Asia (hereafter: JHIEA) is committed to the principles of academic scholarship. Adhering to anonymous peer review and openness, the JHIEA aims to promote academic research, encourage inspiration and publish scholar work in the field of history of Ideas in East Asia.

2.The JHIEA is published annually with issue appearing in September.

3.The JHIEA accepts manuscripts written in Traditional Chinese and English languages. The submitted manuscripts should conform to the editorial guidelines for different types of articles as follows:

• Research Articles: The main text should not exceed 30,000 characters for Chinese manuscript and 40 pages (double spaced) for English manuscript;
• Research Notes on Keywords and Research Newsletters: The main text should not exceed 10,000 characters for Chinese manuscript and 15 pages (double spaced) for English manuscript;
• Manuscripts of Special Articles do not subject to any guidelines stated above.
The JHIEA only accepts a manuscript that has not been previously published nor under. consideration elsewhere and is prepared in accordance with the submission guidelines of the JHIEA. It is the author’s responsibility for obtaining permission to publish any materials (e.g. illustrations or long quotation) that are protected by copyright. Shall there be any infringements or ethic violation such as plagiarism or unauthorized reproduction in relation to an article submitted, the author will be held responsible and liable for their action, The JHIEA shall not be responsible in any circumstances.

4. Manuscripts should be submitted in both Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx/. odf) and PDF format. Authors should also complete the Submission Form for the JHIEA with correct information in both English and Chinese. Manuscripts should be emailed to J.HIEA.100@gmail.com with the subject line “Submission to JHIEA_Name of Author”.

5. Authors may submit a manuscript for consideration at any time throughout the year. A submitted manuscript will be forwarded to two scholars from a relevant academic field for anonymous peer review. The Editorial Committee of the JHIEA will then make the final decision on whether or not to accept the manuscript for publication. The author of the accepted article will receive one copy of the issue in which the article is published as well as an electrical version of the article in PDF format. No other forms of honorarium are offered.

6. Upon submission authors are requested to provide 3 to 5 keywords and an abstract of 300-500 characters in Chinese; 3 to 5 keywords and an abstract of 300 words in English.

7. The author publishing in the JHIEA owns the copyright of the work published, while the JHIEA retains the property rights for the article, which means the author grants the rights and privileges to the JHIEA to use the article for publication (including e-book), related publicity and digital promotion activities freely, and also allows the JHIEA to authorize its database contractors to reproduce the work for online services regardless of time, area and frequency.

8. The author grants the JHIEA the right to use the article for reproduction, public citation, public broadcasting, public transmission, public display, editing, renting, publication, and issuing. In order to comply with the journal’s submission guidelines and improve the fluency of the article, revisions of the article may be undertaken by the editors of the JHIEA. Anyone who wishes to reprint, cite or translate an article published on the JHIEA, apart from obtaining the agreement of the author, they shall also specify the volume and issue number, date and pages of the journal on which the article is published as a reference in their works.

9. Please contact the JHIEA shall there be any questions. If there is any controversy, the Editorial Committee of the JHIEA holds the right and responsibility for making the final decision.
